Purpose of GoDocs entity types
The purpose of the GoDocs entity type is to distinguish among broader entity categories, such as corporations, partnerships, trusts, and LLCs.
For example any limited liability company and any subset of an LLC (such as a PLLC, or Professional Limited Liability Company) are captured under the LLC entity type. The legal name itself carries the distinction, not the GoDocs entity type dropdown (e.g. a PLLC would be classified as an LLC for entity type purposes and ordered a such).
Similarly, professional corporations are treated as a subset of corporations, just as PLLCs are treated as a subset of LLCs. The entity’s legal name will carry the “Professional Corporation” designation if it exists, while the entity type dropdown is intended to capture the broader entity category. (e.g. a professional corporation is to be ordered as a corporation).
